Where USU clinical things live: D2L, MYPORTAL and your USU email
USU runs its classes in D2L Brightspace, keeps nursing training and guides in the Nursing Caring Corner inside D2L, lists your Clinical Placement Coordinator in MYPORTAL, and expects clinical email to come from your USU Google account. Your hours and your health records live elsewhere, in Project Concert and Complio.

D2L Brightspace: your courses, clinical ones included
USU's learning management system is Brightspace by D2L. The catalog names it in its general technology requirements, and USU's login page labels it Online Classroom, D2L. Your courses run there, and that includes each clinical practicum.
For a clinical course, D2L is where to check what your faculty expect week by week. The handbooks set USU's rules; the course fills in the working details. One example: USU requires you to upload your OFE Approval Letter and the preceptor acknowledgement form in the first week of each clinical course, and your course is the place to confirm exactly where that upload goes.
FNP students admitted on or after 05/06/2024 have a virtual immersion, and USU says the details are presented in the MSN572 course. Students admitted earlier were assigned to in-person immersion in Phoenix. Either way, immersion hours don't count toward clinical hours; our MSN572 immersion page explains the rest.
The Nursing Caring Corner and the DNP Doctoral Community
The Nursing Caring Corner is a nursing resource shell inside D2L. USU's Office of Field Experience page says it hosts the HIPAA and Bloodborne Pathogen training, Project Concert guides and FNP immersion information. DNP students have a parallel space called the DNP Doctoral Community.
Two items on your compliance checklist are completed there: the HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement and the Bloodborne Pathogens training, which needs a quiz score of 80% or higher. What each involves is on our BLS, HIPAA and bloodborne pathogens page.
If the Nursing Caring Corner doesn't appear in your D2L course list, ask your CPC or OFE to check your access early. It's a small fix when you have weeks, and a real problem when a compliance deadline is days away.
MYPORTAL: finding and booking your Clinical Placement Coordinator
MYPORTAL is USU's Student Portal, at my.usuniversity.edu. For clinical purposes its key job is simple: it lists your assigned Clinical Placement Coordinator (CPC), and it's where USU makes CPC booking through Calendly available.
OFE says email to your CPC gets a reply within 24 business hours. For anything longer than a quick question, such as going through your preceptor leads or a site that has stopped responding, a booked Calendly appointment gives you time to cover it properly. If MYPORTAL shows no coordinator, or a name you don't recognize, email ofe@usuniversity.edu from your USU account and ask who is assigned to you. A written answer gives you something to point back to later.
Your USU Google email is the official channel
USU's email runs on Google, and the FNP Clinical Handbook says all communication with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences must be sent from your USU-issued address. Messages from a personal account don't meet that rule, however urgent they are.
The same Google account is your key to USU's Google Forms. The Appendix G Interest Form, where you name at least three potential preceptors or sites for each setting, requires you to be logged in to your USU Google account.
Keep a close eye on this inbox once clinical courses are near. OFE emails the OFE Approval Letter when everything is approved, and your Clinical Site Supervisor contacts you through your usuniversity.edu address to set up a site visit.
What doesn't live in D2L
Several things students expect to find in their course sit in separate systems or on USU's catalog site.
- Hours, journals and evaluations: Project Concert, at secure.projectnurse.com/usuniversity. Entries made more than 48 hours late don't count.
- Immunizations, background check and drug screen: Complio by American DataBank, which you pay for yourself.
- Preceptor signatures: DocuSign is USU's primary tool for preceptor e-signatures, including the Appendix H Preceptor Information and Acknowledgement Form.
- Handbooks and appendices: the current FNP, DNP and RN-BSN/MSN handbooks are published on USU's catalog site, usuniversity.smartcatalogiq.com.
When a handbook page and a course page seem to disagree, ask your clinical faculty or CPC which one applies, and keep the answer in writing.
What we handle while you work in D2L
D2L runs your coursework, and our part is the placement: searching for a preceptor and site that fit your USU course, and helping you gather what OFE and the Program Director review, such as the Appendix H form and the preceptor's license verification. You send it to OFE from your USU email, as USU's rule requires, with every piece already checked.

What is the Nursing Caring Corner at USU?

Where do I find my Clinical Placement Coordinator's name?
In MYPORTAL, USU's Student Portal at my.usuniversity.edu. USU lists each student's assigned CPC there, and CPC appointments are booked through Calendly from the portal. If no coordinator appears, email ofe@usuniversity.edu from your USU account and ask who has been assigned to you.
Can I email OFE from my personal email address?
No. The FNP Clinical Handbook says all communication with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences must come from your USU-issued email address. Use your USU Google account for OFE, your coordinator and your faculty. It also keeps every message about your placement in one searchable inbox, which helps if a date or approval is ever questioned.
Is Project Concert part of D2L?
No. Project Concert is a separate system at secure.projectnurse.com/usuniversity, where you log hours and journal entries and where evaluations are managed. The Nursing Caring Corner in D2L hosts guides on using it, which is why the two get mixed up. Log encounters in Project Concert within 48 hours, or those hours won't count.
Where do I upload my OFE Approval Letter in week one?
USU requires the upload in the first week of each clinical course, together with the preceptor acknowledgement form, and you can't log hours or be on site before you have the letter. The handbook doesn't name the system for the upload, so follow the instructions in your clinical course in D2L and ask your faculty if they're unclear.
