What Project Concert is
Project Concert, shortened to PC in parts of USU's handbook, is the clinical tracking system USU's Office of Field Experience uses. The OFE describes it as the place for logging hours and journals, and where clinical evaluations are housed and managed. It also builds your portfolio and tracks your documents and their expiry dates. USU's handbooks name it for FNP and DNP hour logs, and the MSN578 course description names it for Nurse Educator hours.
The login page is secure.projectnurse.com/usuniversity, linked from the Office of Field Experience page. It's separate from D2L Brightspace, where your courses run, and from Complio, where your health and safety records go. If you've used Typhon or Exxat at another school, USU's sources don't mention either; Project Concert does that job here.

Check the document dates here at the start of each course. An item that lapses mid-course puts you on clinical pause, and Project Concert then shows you as not compliant, which stops both site time and logging until it's renewed.
The 48-hour rule
The FNP Clinical Handbook says encounters must be logged in Project Concert within 48 hours, or the associated hours will not count. The DNP Practice Immersion Handbook sets the same 48-hour window for immersion hours. We found no published way to recover hours entered late.
USU's public guidance doesn't say whether the 48 hours run from the start or the end of a clinical day, or how to correct an entry after the window closes. The safe habit is to log each clinical day that evening, hours and journal entries together, while the details are fresh.
Nurse Educator students in MSN578 report hours weekly in Project Concert, according to the catalog course description. Check your D2L course for the exact weekly deadline.
An entry made after 48 hours doesn't count, and USU clinical hours don't roll over to the next course.
Before you log your first hour
Logging an hour and having it count are two different things. USU sets conditions that come before any entry.
- OFE Approval Letter. You can't log hours or be on site before the Office of Field Experience emails your approval letter. In week one of each clinical course you upload it with the preceptor acknowledgement form.
- Course dates. No FNP hours before the course starts or during holiday breaks without approval, and hours must begin in the course's first week.
- Compliance current. If a Complio item expires, you go on clinical pause and can't attend clinicals or log hours while it's expired.
- Ratio respected. FNP hours logged while a preceptor has more than two students, or more than one in New Jersey, don't count. NP students from other schools count toward that ratio.
Journals, evaluations and your preceptor
Journal Entry logs are where USU counts the FNP population minimums: 100 geriatric entries, 80 pediatric entries split by age, and 40 women's health entries by the end of the program. The full breakdown, and which settings count, is on our clinical hour logs page.
Evaluations run through Project Concert too. You complete Appendix J, the Student Evaluation of Preceptor. Your Clinical Site Supervisor completes Appendix K after the site visit, and your preceptor or clinical faculty completes Appendix L, the Preceptor/Clinical Faculty Evaluation of Student.
Your preceptor doesn't get a login. A 2024 USU onboarding document says preceptors receive emailed links to complete evaluations, so tell your preceptor to expect them and to check spam folders during each course.
Getting help, and what USU doesn't publish
USU keeps Project Concert guides in the Nursing Caring Corner inside D2L, and in the DNP Doctoral Community for doctoral students. Your Clinical Placement Coordinator handles placement questions; for a question about a specific course's logs or evaluations, ask your course faculty. USU's FNP handbook says all College of Nursing and Health Sciences communication must come from your USU-issued email, so raise any Project Concert problem from that address.
Some details aren't in USU's public material: how your account is created, whether there's a mobile app, what a complete portfolio contains, and how corrections work after the fact. What a placement advisor does is look for a preceptor whose clinic schedule suits USU's pace of about 17 hours a week, and who's willing to answer USU's emailed evaluation links on time. How do I log in to Project Concert at USU?
Go to secure.projectnurse.com/usuniversity, the address linked from USU's Office of Field Experience page. It's a separate login from D2L Brightspace and from Complio. USU keeps Project Concert guides in the Nursing Caring Corner inside D2L, and DNP students find them in the DNP Doctoral Community.
What happens if I log clinical hours more than 48 hours late?
USU's FNP handbook says those hours won't count, and the DNP handbook applies the same 48-hour limit. Because clinical hours don't roll over between courses, the course's 135 hours still have to be met within the same 8-week course. If you've missed the window, tell your course faculty straight away.
Does my preceptor need a Project Concert account?
USU doesn't describe preceptor logins. A 2024 USU preceptor onboarding document says preceptors receive emailed links to complete evaluations, such as Appendix L, the Preceptor/Clinical Faculty Evaluation of Student. Ask your preceptor to watch for those emails, including in spam, throughout each clinical course.
Is Project Concert the same as Typhon?
No, they're different products. USU's sources name Project Concert as its clinical tracking system and don't mention Typhon, Exxat or similar tools. If you transferred from a school that used another tracker, Project Concert's Hours log and Journal Entry logs are the records USU will look at for your hours.
Why does Project Concert show me as not compliant?
USU's handbook says an expired health and safety item makes you “not compliant” in Project Concert. Complio sends notices 60, 45, 30 and 15 days before an item expires and on the day itself. While you're not compliant you can't attend clinicals or log hours, so renew items well before they lapse.
